New Art for the Art Garden

Last week, a sculpture appeared in the Laurel Art Garden at 35th and Delaware Street — a little further down Delaware to be exact.  A seven foot high ceramic piece called, “Obelisk 2″ found a new home between panels of hubcaps and cork oak trees.  Created by Nicholas F. Cienfuegos for his senior year project at U.C. Berkeley, the sculpture is 30” square at the base and utilizes ceramic tile, grout, rigid foam insulation, metal,  and fiberglass mesh.  And mirrors, which reflect the garden and the surrounding environment.  Cienfuegos, having just returned from studies in Turkey, delivered the piece to the site with the help of a friend and neighbor named George.  He thought he’d share his work with the community and make room for more work as he starts graduate studies at the San Francisco Art Institute in the fall.

Drive, stroll or walk on by and take a look.
